The Tate Modern

Today we went to the Tate Modern to look at some modern art.  It was amazing!

We took the tube to Mansion House then walked across the Millennium Bridge.  It was a great trip and we all learnt lots about modern art, particularly surrealism.

These are the tiles we made (sorry if I have missed any) before they are fired.

Clay tiles

Today we made clay tiles for our school garden.  The tiles we made were inspired by De Morgan, the famous ceramics artist.  Susie was brilliant at explaining how to make the tiles and we all (including the teachers!) had loads of fun.   We are really looking forward to seeing what they are like when they have been fired in the kiln!

Our second chocolate experiment

In our second experiment with Ms Toole we placed giant chocolate buttons in or on different materials (such as tin foil, a plastic cup, part of an egg box) and then placed these items on top of a hot water bottle. We timed these experiments for 3 minutes and noted down our results in our books. It got a bit messy as you can see from some of the photos…

The De Morgan centre

This is us at the De Morgan centre.  He is a local artist who did painting on tiles.  His wife was also an artist who did amazing paintings.  We spent a long time carefully doing our own drawings of the paintings that we liked.

We went there as we will be making our own tile paintings for our garden.  .
